For the first time, we will be offering an in-person workshop for our Advanced Book Coach Training and Certification course. This will be a week-long workshop running July 13-19, 2019, in Santa Barbara, California, at the home of our founder and chief creative officer, Jennie Nash.

How much is it? $3,700, including some meals. (We will provide lunch and some dinners. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging. We have a list of great suggestions at several price points.)
Who else will be there? No more than 8 book-coaching candidates who are committed to taking a giant leap forward in their own coaching business, plus Author Accelerator Vice President Laura Franzini, Author Accelerator Manager of Community Engagement Abby Mathews, and Author Accelerator founder and Chief Creative Officer Jennie Nash.
Is this retreat for people who are just starting out in the book-coaching business? Or for coaches who have established coaching businesses? Both! This retreat will put the right tools in your belt for becoming a book coach, and will help existing coaches improve their skills and services.
I don’t know much about book coaching. How can I learn more? We invite you to take our free 6-part Book Coach Basic Training email course that will introduce you to the fundamental principles of book coaching. Will we be covering the full 6 months of material in just 6 days? Well, doesn’t that sound overwhelming! Thankfully, the answer is no. You’ll take some time before the workshop to familiarize yourself with the core tenets of book coaching (via an online course associated with the workshop), which we’ll dive into during the workshop with group discussions, hands-on experience, and 1:1 feedback from Jennie. After the workshop, you’ll have the opportunity (and the time) to practice your new skills while working with three volunteer writers as you work toward completing your practicums and earning certification. Jennie and Laura will continue to guide you in that work through monthly working sessions and our online Membership Circle.

We'll walk you through our editorial test so you can see exactly what we expect our certified coaches to be able to deliver on a writer's submission. You’ll meet 1:1 with Jennie and Laura.

Complete your practicums and submit your Portfolio for review. Laura will offer feedback on your work and determine whether you have earned Advanced Certification.

Please let us know if you would like to be connected to other workshop participants who would like to share accommodations like an Airbnb. These hotels are close to the airport and Jennie's home: Best Western Plus-South Coast Inn, Super 8 by Wyndham-Santa Barbara Goleta and the Hampton Inn-Santa Barbara Goleta.
+ How will I get there?
If you aren’t within driving distance to Santa Barbara, we suggest flying into the Santa Barbara airport (SBA).
+ What happens if I register but then can't attend the retreat?
We offer a 30-day cancellation window. This means that within the first 30 days, you can cancel your participation in our workshop with a full refund, minus an administration fee. If you decide to cancel within 30 days of the start of the workshop, there are no refunds given, as it is unlikely that – due to the nature of the in-person worshop – we will be able to fill your seat. If you find yourself needing to cancel in the window between, Author Accelerator will grant a 50% refund. Author Accelerator offers highly structured programs that are not right for all writers or coaches. Consequently, we reserve the right to refuse service to any prospective or existing customer if we feel the workshop isn’t the right fit for you. If the cancelation is on our part, we will honor a refund.
