Want to learn more about working with a Book Coach? These FAQs are for you!

  • All of our book coaches are highly skilled and trained, but how will you know which is the right match for you? The right book coach for you will be:

    • Excited about your project and the prospect of working with you

    • Able to offer a package or service that will help you move your book forward

    • Prepared to coach in a style that suits your needs

Our searchable directory gives you the power to find that coach.

  • A book coach helps you meet your writing goals. They will work with you throughout the creative process, depending on what you need.

    Your goals might include:

    • Getting support to start a book with confidence

    • Investing in your project from the start so that it reflects your best ideas

    • Getting feedback as you write forward to make the writing process as efficient as possible

    • Getting accountability to keep your project on track

    • Getting strategic insight into the publishing process so you can make the best choice for your project

    • Getting help with developmental edits to clean up a finished manuscript

    • Getting help revising a manuscript once you know the development edits you need to make

    • Making sure the creative process isn’t quite so lonely

    • Overcoming doubt and resistance

    • Getting assistance to query agents in order to seek a traditional publishing deal

    • Getting guidance on submitting to a hybrid publisher or preparing a book for independent/self publishing

  • The investment for book coaching can vary by coach and project. The book coaches are not employees of Author Accelerator, so we neither track nor mandate their pricing. Here are some notes on pricing to prepare you for your book coaching journey:

    • Monthly coaching programs typically start at $400 USD per month, but can range up to $1,000 USD per month or even more, depending on the level of support or customization involved. The more hands-on the help you require (what we call “high touch”), the higher the fees are likely to be. Lower-touch services will be lower priced.

    • A manuscript evaluation or edit is typically priced per page, and can range from $5-15 USD per page.

    • Many coaches also offer introductory services at lower rates to help you jumpstart the writing process and experience what coaching is like before committing to a larger package. We also have coaches who offer courses you can take to both get to know the coach and fulfill the learning objectives of that coursework. Courses and mini courses can range in price from tens to hundreds, even thousands of dollars.

    • This service is not for writers who are looking for a guarantee, because there are no guarantees in publishing.

    • It’s not for writers who are looking for coaches to give them contacts in the publishing industry, such as inside access to agents or editors at publishing houses.

    • It’s not for writers who are looking for ghostwriters, co-authors, or publishing deals from a book coach.

    • It’s not for writers who only wish to work with coaches who have written a bestselling book themselves. Coaching is its own skill, and not every good writer is a good book coach.

    • It’s not for writers who only wish to work with coaches whose clients have written bestselling books. We do not believe that is the only metric for a good coach, nor is it indicative of how another writer’s book will perform in the marketplace.

  • All over the world! We currently have coaches based in 11 countries and even more students (soon-to-be coaches) around the world, so time-zone conflicts won’t be an issue. Check out our map below: Coaches are in the orange countries; students are in the teal.
